Whether it is worth buying, depends on what you intend to use it for. However, there are some areas in which it doesn't stack up to Photoshop such as color correction tools, deformations, wealth of filters to name some. It feels very comfortable to me even though I am a long time Photoshop user. Reference layer option that speeds up any coloring process that relies on flats etc. Vector and bitmap lines, precise line control, powerful brush engine that can use multicolored brush tips. It has various nifty features for creating illustrations. In my opinion it is a fantastic piece of software.
It works great on Surface and other small windows tablet with Wacom driver in it Reply I'd definitely recommend trying out the SAI, at least the trial. However, SAI was much, MUCH lighter than Clip for sure and was able to handle at least 100 layers with no problem, so again it's probably because I'm just not use to it yet. I tend to use bunch of layers, at least 50 or close to so.
I do have mid-range PC which enough to draw things on computer but could have more room. Sort of like how Corel Painter aims for natural style.Ībout the unstable thing, it should directly related to the power of PC. The feeling of dense coloring may come from the SAI, as SAI is much closer to water coloring style compare to Clip Paint which is closer to ink and marker like. I think SAI was more straight forward about the control and all of the stuff ( I should say simple or limited features), and I'm still figuring out many thing about Clip Studio. It's good for both, but I surely do miss SAI.
In all Clip Studio Pro is more than possible to use it as paint tool, but I feel like this was meant for comic. Weak layer effect (perhaps my personal opinion) Dense coloring, not as sensitive as SAI. Tablet compatibility, but not on Surface Pro 2 and under(has many bugs and crashes) No color adjustment like SAI or PS (or maybe it's hidden somewhere) Quite unstable (had several crashes with weak PC especially) excellent bucket tool for faster workflow Tablet compatibility (for cintiq and such) color conversion from fully colored to comic color Rulers and "Perspective Ruler" for accurate landscape sketching Lot of materials you can use including comic frames. I guess though, if you make stamp brush (for clothing and background) it can be very useful.Įnough with my rant, this is how I think about ClipPro. I like SAI's lot better, as it was much simpler. One of the thing that I kinda hate ClipStu was how confusing their custom brush setting is. However, Clip Studio were never much of an fan for me since I used SAI for most of the time, I was just forced to change to Clip because Cintiq messed up my SAI. It has tons of community support and lot of materials you can use. Many people says that Clip Studio is something in between SAI and PS. It's great for paint as well as short comic drawing. You definitely should, for the price that they are having for.
